Welcome Message from Mr. Edward Yu, JP, District Officer (Yau Tsim Mong)

Yau Tsim Mong (“YTM”) (Tai Kok Tsui and West Kowloon Cultural District included), is a prosperous district. Thanks to its convenient transport network, the district is one of the commercial and tourist centres of the city. YTM District is also known for its diversity. It is not uncommon for you to encounter people of different ethnicities on the streets among the modern and historical architecture in the area. No matter you are one of the 300 000 plus YTM residents, an employee working here, or a visitor coming for shopping and dining, there is always something for you to love the district.

YTM District offers lots of opportunities. However, with high population density and being one of the districts with the largest number of aged buildings in Hong Kong, YTM District has quite a few local issues which require the cooperation and concerted effort of different sectors in the district including District Council members, local Committees, organisations etc. You are very welcome to share your thoughts with us, so that we can act as a bridge between YTM residents and government departments.

Profile (Yau Tsim Mong District)

The Yau Tsim Mong District faces the Victoria Harbour at the south and the west, while the east includes Hung Hom Station and its vicinity and King's Park, and the north includes Prince Edward and Tai Nan. It has a gross land area of approximately 7 km². According to the 2018 Statistics of the Census and Statistics Department, the resident population in the Yau Tsim Mong District is about 330 000. The population density is high throughout the district.

Yau Tsim Mong is the focal point of many arterial transport routes in Hong Kong. It is also a famous shopping area with shopping malls, hawker bazaars and traditional wet markets. Temple Street, Ladies Market, Yau Ma Tei Fruit Market, Yau Ma Tei Jade Bazaar and Mong Kok Flower Market are just a few examples.
