Overseas Domestic Helpers Centres

In September 1994, the Government proceeded with a scheme to establish centres for overseas domestic helpers (ODHs) to gather and carry out activities on their rest days. Currently, there are about 220,000 ODHs employed in the territory. The objective of the scheme is to meet their practical needs and to relieve the impact of their gathering at the more popular locations such as Central.

The Home Affairs Department identifies suitable sites for setting up centres for ODHs and oversees the implementation of the entire scheme. As for the finance, management and promotion of these centres, they are undertaken by the Hong Kong Bayanihan Trust. The Trust is a non-profit making organization formed by a group of Filipino businessmen working in Hong Kong.
