SHA visits polling and counting stations of Village Representative Election (with photos)
The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, visited polling and counting stations in Yuen Long on the last election day of the 2011 Village Representative Election (VRE), witnessing the smooth completion of the third VRE.
Mr Tsang visited the polling stations at the former site of Sha Kong Public Luen Yick School and Buddhist Chan Wing Kan Memorial School this evening (January 23) to examine the operation of the polling stations. After the end of the polling, he visited the counting station and emptied a ballot box at Fung Kam Street Sports Centre.
“The election could not have been held successfully without the unfailing support of various parties. I hope that all the elected representatives would serve their fellow villagers wholeheartedly and work closely with the government to foster further developments in their villages.
“I would also like to thank the Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Barnabas Fung Wah; and members Mr Lawrence Lok Ying-kam, SC and Professor Andrew Chan Chi-fai, for their support. They have visited various polling and counting stations to monitor the elections in the past few weeks,” Mr Tsang said.
