Profile (Sham Shui Po District)
Situated in the north-western part of the Kowloon Peninsula, Sham Shui Po District is one of the earliest developed and one of the most densely populated administrative districts in Hong Kong. Sham Shui Po can be broadly divided into seven areas, namely Central Sham Shui Po, Shek Kip Mei, Lai Chi Kok, West Kowloon Reclamation Area, Mei Foo, Cheung Sha Wan and Yau Yat Chuen. According to the demarcation of administrative districts, Sham Shui Po District is bounded by the Lion Rock Country Park in Sha Tin to the north, the East Rail Railway to the east, Boundary Street to the south, and the waterfront area including Stonecutters Island to the west.
Sham Shui Po District is mainly a residential area mingled with industrial and commercial developments. There are numerous old tenement buildings, as well as the first public housing estate in Hong Kong - Shek Kip Mei Estate, coupled with newly built public housing estates and private buildings in the reclamation area.
