District Youth Development and Civic Education Committee

Terms of Reference

  • To advise on matters relating to youth development and civic education;
  • To organise or co-ordinate civic education activities to suit the needs of the district with a view to enhancing civic awareness of local residents and their participation in building a civil society;
  • To organise or co-ordinate youth activities to suit the needs of the district with a view to fostering national and civic awareness of young people, enhancing their development potential and promoting their active participation in community affairs;
  • To offer advice on the funding applications for district youth development and civic education activities from local organisations including schools as well as the implementation of funded activities and their effectiveness; and
  • To publicise and promote youth development and civic education activities in the district.

Youth Development Programme

Introduction

The Youth Development Programme is a community building campaign implemented across the 18 districts. It aims to foster a culture of multi-faceted excellence and nurture young people with vision, creativity, leadership and a sense of commitment through structured, diversified and sustainable youth activities, with a view to empowering and equipping young people to realise their capabilities and potential, and pursue healthy interests; understand and experience interpersonal relationships; learn about their communities and develop a stronger sense of belonging and commitment to the community; and enhance their national and civic awareness.
